After wrapping in Midtown, we headed to the production office where my Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp DVD was produced and taped how I put the final touches on the DVD trailer with the editor/camerawoman. I enjoyed a quick lunch break today at Jivamukti Cafe, the Union Square yoga studio’s vegan cafe. I ordered the Red Lentil Dal and it was quite delicious. Again, it wasn’t perfectly in line with my idea of detox because it contained lentils but it was warming and yummy. I like this place because the food is clean, tasty and fresh. It is a bit low in protein for my taste and therefore not filling enough but it sure is a great spot to try out - with or without a yoga class.
It’s great to be connected with women who are actually in support of each other and share tips or ideas for each other’s development. It’s somewhat new to me to experience this and I love the energy we create when we get our ideas going. I’ve been experiencing this phenomenon for years now in Slim & Strong – all participants help each other out to make sure everyone makes progress. It’s by no means understood or normal, based on my experience, and I love this facet of my work the most. We all pull on the same string to create a better environment for all of us. If we all take care of our health and fitness and surround ourselves with like-minded people then we have a much greater chance of success.
I’ve been to many classes or meetings where women are jealous of other’s success or don’t want the best for their friends because it would make them feel like they’re left behind. I’ve been to workouts where people come to class while others are waiting and are being eyed up top to bottom to see what the competition of the day is like. Let’s just say that I don’t see any of this in my classes. Instead, people greet each other with enthusiasm and ask each other about how they have been. Tons of friendships have been established over the years and we’ve done some fun and crazy things together outside of classes. That’s the spirit I love about my work – that the energy transcends way beyond the classes. It touches others and spreads from one person to the next. That’s pretty magical in my eyes.
We wrapped up filming late in the afternoon and after catching up on a bit of emails and work, I taught the 6.30pm class. Who knew that 2 espresso shots would have such an effect on me. I think there wasn’t a dry t-shirt at the end of class and the moaning was quite loud when I announced the 10th set of sumo squats but that didn’t stop me. The caffeine was talking. Loudly. Sorry guys
