>DAY 1: This morning, bright and early, I went to Gold’s Gym for my first day of the new challenge. Ariane had arranged to go though the weight lifting routine that would be our mission operandi for the next 2 weeks, so my partner-in-crime and I would know what the hell were were supposed to be doing. First thing though, we had to do the measurements, the part I had sort of blocked out of my head – I wasn’t worse then I thought but I wasn’t doing as well as I had hoped either. Ariane broke the news that to get in the “Fitness/ Athlete” range I was going to have to drop 7% of my body fat. She didn’t toss me out as hopeless right there on the spot so I am going to take that as a sign she thinks it can happen. I was a little early and the other girl was a little late so Ariane sent me upstairs to do a little cardio. I ran for a little bit on my own pace before being shown a new treadmill routine that would “pushed us”. I can honestly say that after doing it for 15 minutes, she was so right, I wasn’t pushing it even though I really thought I had been. Who would have though adding in side shuffling sections, lunges, and sprints would make such a huge difference…. ouch.
Then we went down stairs to go though the upper body / lower body routines. I don’t really do much upper body work. Mostly – on my own I just run though the P57 arms section at the gym. This routine was NOT that. It had really heavy weights and it kicked my ass. The hardest of the new moves was a plank with alternate back rows – I used 12.5 pound weights and did 20 reps. It was so hard but I was so proud of actually being able to do the full set – twice. I am a little concerned tomorrow I won’t be able to lift my arms… but I will cross that bridge when I get there! The lower routine, was hard but nothing that seemed as crazy as the plank evilness.
I had always planned on getting some extra cardio in after the end of the session (because I am delusional Iike that) and hopped back on the treadmill. I quickly realized that my legs were like bricks and they were a really slow two miles! I think that next time, I will be doing the cardio first….
This first two weeks is going to be so amazing and hard. I won’t lie at the moment this challenge seems a little daunting but I still can’t help being excited.
